Bruins Stay Consistent, lose to Canadiens; Go for Tenth Straight Loss Today Against Canucks

In a game that Clarence was lucky enough to attend, the Boston Bruins reached a level of futility that has not been seen in 85 years as they lost their ninth consecutive game, this time 3-2 in a shootout against the Canadiens in Boston.

Here’s a little perspective on how long it has been since the Bruins last lost 9 in a row in the 1924-25 season.

In 1924-25:

  • A 35-year old Adolf Hitler had just been released from Landsberg Prison and was finishing up Mein Kampf.
  • J. Edgar Hoover had just been appointed head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a post he would hold for 47 years until his death in 1972.
  • American airman Russell L. Maughan flies from New York to San Francisco in 21 hours and 48 minutes on a dawn-to-dusk flight in a Curtiss pursuit.
  • A gallon of gas was 19 cents.
  • Calvin Coolidge becomes the first President of the United States to deliver a radio broadcast from the White House.
  • In New York City the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is held.
  • John T. Scopes is indicted for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution.
  • …and Andy Rooney celebrated his 65th birthday.

In any case, here are a few shots from the game:

I have run out of quality Soup(y Sales) clips, as I didn’t expect so many (losses) – so here’s a look back at the golden age of television advertising:

…and how wrong is this?  Fred and Barney hawking Winstons!

The Northwest Division leading Vancouver Canucks visit the TD Garden today, as the Bruins try to avoid their tenth straight loss – as well as falling back to .500 (currently 23-22-10).

In other NHL news, the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes is over – he is now a New Jersey Devil.

With the NHL trading deadline looming on March 3, I am hoping the Bruins don’t do anything hasty.

Deja vu? Another 3-2 shootout loss after blowing a 2-0 lead. Who says they’re not consistent?
Clarence, wait ’til next year, is approaching fast!
Heard one of the jokers on ‘The Instigators’ recommend that they stand pat. Stay with what they have, ride the storm!
